Each year the Chadron Festival of Quilts committee chooses a theme or block to be used in the challenge quilts entered in the Challenge Quilt Contest. For 2008, "stars" which include diamonds in their design were chosen. Definition: diamond - a 2D geometric shape with 4 sides of equal length, but with differing perpendicular angles

The 2008 Theme: "Stars over the Ridge"

Before you panic by thinking the only star with diamonds is the LeMoyne star; there are many, many other stars with diamond shapes in them. Most books on quilt blocks will have several examples. Any of these are acceptable, as long as you have a diamond and it resembles a star. The Split-LeMoyne Star is also acceptable. See the example below for the correct diamond shape. (No diamonds made 1/2 square triangles and set on point, please.)

Entry Rules: Your quilt must include at least one star with diamond-shaped pieces on the front of the quilt, and the quilt must be made using solid fabrics. No prints or tone-on-tones, please. The remainder of the quilt may be pieced, appliquéd, embroidered, painted or any combination of techniques. The size of the quilt must have a perimeter measurement (the measurement of all four sides added together) of 210 inches or less. You must have a 2-4" hanging sleeve attached to the back so it may be hung at the show, and you must have an attached label on the back of the quilt with the name of the quilt, your name, address, and phone number. You must have your quilt and completed registration form turned in at the Assumption Arena no later than Thursday, April 17, 2008.
